CSB 8 covered the “Keep the Promise” rally, which was held on Friday, May 31st in front of the San Diego State building in downtown San Diego. The rally was about the governor’s recent proposed budget cut to the IDD community! The rally was filled with hundreds of individuals, that encompassed SD based organizations, clients and staff, as well as a feature from our CEO Edward Hershey, and his daughter, Julia, who has a disability and receives services. When the CBS 8 team reached out to Governor Gavin Newsom’s office, the governor said he wasn’t cutting the program but doing a “temporary one-year delay to help close the state’s budget shortfall”. The finalized budget deadline is June 15th. We will not accept another delay and need the funding now for our community. KEEP THE PROMISE! #keepthepromise #dontdelay #governornewsom #newsom #budget #budgetcut #california #disabilityrights #disabilityawareness
