Answering Your Key Questions

How many clients can live in a home?

Up to two clients can live in a home. Each person must be offered the choice of a private bedroom.

How does the funding work?

Services are covered through an individual’s benefits (Social Security and Regional Center). Funding can sometimes feel confusing and overwhelming —we will help you figure it out along with your Regional Center worker.  We can also provide support with Social Security payeeships.

How does the matching process work?

We take pride in finding the right match and are careful in doing so. Clients and families are involved in every step and are encouraged to spend as much time with their potential match as needed in order to make a confident decision. Our goal is to have long-term matches.

Why should I consider becoming a family home provider?

Being a family home provider is a life-changing experience. Not only will you make a lasting positive impact on someone’s life, but you will also experience a difference in your own. A tax-free monthly stipend is also provided for your services.

How do I become a family home provider?

Our experienced team will assist you every step of the way. You will complete an in-home interview, fingerprinting and background checks, a health screening, TB test, CPR and first aid training, as well as a home safety check.  If you are interested in starting the process, please contact Lindsey Espinosa at lindseyk@guidinghands.org or (619) 873-8209.

How much is the monthly stipend for family home providers?

The amount is based on the support needs of the resident. Family home providers receive a tax-free monthly stipend ranging between $5,075-$8,255 to cover the resident’s rent and meals, and the services provided.

What other services does HGH offer? Can I receive more than 1 service from HGH?

HGH often serves people in multiple programs.  Whether receiving several services at the same time or when transitioning from one HGH program to another, we will provide the support you need.  Please see our service pages for information about all our programs.  For more specific information or additional questions, contact us at 619-938-2850 or info@guidinghands.org.

If you have questions, need additional information,
or are interested in becoming a family home provider, please contact Lindsey Espinosa at
lindseyk@guidinghands.org or (619) 873-8209.

If you are a Regional Center client who is interested in living in a family home, contact your Service Coordinator for a referral.
