Home of Guiding Hands’ ‘Evening in Paris’ Raises $82,000

Guests and sponsors of the 34th Annual Heart & Hand Ball rallied for San Diegans with developmental disabilities on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, raising more than $82,000 for Home of Guiding Hands (HGH).

Presented by Grossmont Healthcare District, the Ball featured an old-world Parisian theme that was complete with jugglers, caricaturists and mimes. The event was held at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel. Net proceeds benefited HGH, a 501(c)(3) non-profit public benefit corporation that empowers individuals with developmental and related physical challenges to achieve greater independence through residential and comprehensive support services.

“It was super!” exclaimed HGH Events Coordinator Marcy Blumberg. “The evening’s French flair made it a festive and memorable occasion. We are so grateful to our many sponsors and guests for attending and supporting this event, and to our wonderful committee and volunteers. I want to send them a huge thank you, and in keeping with our theme: Merci beaucoup tout le monde!”

The event featured music and entertainment by The Mar Dels and special guest Herb Cawthorne as master of ceremonies. Longtime HGH friends and supporters, Dick and Jill Marrs and family, were recognized during the program as the 2008 Ball Honorees, as were major sponsors Grossmont Healthcare District, Union Bank of California, and American Airlines. The 2008 Ball was co-chaired by Lynne Doyle and Sharon Gray. Committee members were: Christa Asaro, Yvonne Bloom, Sherry Delsen, Brooke Ferandell, Gail Glutting, Susan Lomas, Debby McDowell, Ralleen Ratzlaff, Ariana Schuh, Sheila Trovaten, and Ashley Turner.
