The 28th Annual Golf Classic - Pro-Am Tournament, held Friday, October 15th, at Sycuan Resort and Casino raised $50,000 for Home of Guiding Hands' (HGH) programs for San Diegans with developmental disabilities. " "Not only was this year's tournament a success, it was so much fun!" said Rachel Wood, HGH Events Coordinator. "It's a great day when you can get the community involved, have fun, and raise much needed funds for Home of Guiding Hands."
The Golf Classic was sponsored by Grossmont Healthcare District and The Bill & Norma Verbeck Foundation. Other major sponsors included: Video Fact Documentation Service, Sycuan Casino, Hanken Cono Assad & Co., W.R. Connelly, Inc., and San Diego County Credit Union (Santee).
The tournament included a putting contest, on-course contests, breakfast, 18 holes of golf, lunch and dinner, followed by an awards reception. Trophies were awarded to the top three scoring teams, and PGA professionals competed for a share of a $5,000 purse, generously donated by The Bill and Norma Verbeck Foundation.
The 2010 HGH Golf Classic Committee spent months preparing for the tournament. Their knowledge of the game and dedication to HGH was invaluable in the planning process. Wood states, "The tournament was a complete success and it couldn't have been done without the committee. It's amazing to see how much time goes into planning these types of events." Committee members included: Michael Carney, Frank Gerberding, Bill Kramer, Randy Rundle, Benjamin Trovaten, and Crystal Watkins.
