Whether you are sports-minded or prefer dining and dancing, HGH's special events are an excellent way to enjoy yourself while benefiting nearly 425 adults and children with developmental disabilities assisted by our programs and services. HGH holds three major fundraising events per year, the Golf Classic Pro-Am, the Heart and Hand Gala, and a Walk and Fun Run. You are invited to join the many people who are finding ways to make meaningful, rewarding contributions to their communities by volunteering. Home of Guiding Hands’ Gala “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”

SM

Three hundred guests and sponsors of the 37th Annual Heart and Hand Gala helped “bridge the gap” for adults with developmental disabilities Saturday night aboard the luxury yacht Inspiration Hornblower. Home of Guiding Hands has been in operation over forty years providing quality services, training and advocacy for people with developmental disabilities and their families.

Presenting sponsor Grossmont Healthcare District was recognized for their support and generosity to Home of Guiding Hands throughout the years. Home of Guiding Hands has created many partnerships in its more than 40 year history, but their relationship with Grossmont Healthcare District has been one of the strongest. Their support and generosity throughout the years has made a direct and lasting impact on the children and adults we serve.  Michael Emerson from the Grossmont Healthcare Board of Directors accepted the award from Executive Director Mark Klaus.

Adding to the whimsical atmosphere, Harpist Devora Susman provided beautiful music while guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, having their palms read by Karlye Adair, and bidding on exciting auction packages.  Live entertainment by The Mighty Untouchables was a crowd pleasing favorite, and Marc Bailey, co-anchor of CW News in the morning was a fantastic emcee. Auctioneer Extraordinaire Steve Hamann kept the bidding lively and exciting. Lauren Potter, star of the hit show Glee was the highlight of the evening. Her determination and spunk inspired everyone in the room.

This year Home of Guiding Hands chose to recognize three honorees, community partner San Diego County Credit Union (Santee), parents Clyde and Bernadette Durst, and outgoing Board President Rick Doremus and his wife, Mary. HGH Executive Director Mark Klaus said, “Each honoree has made such a lasting contribution to Home of Guiding Hands, we are so pleased to be able to honor them.  Other major sponsors included American Airlines, Mountain View Services, Quick-Dry Flood Services,           The Bill and Norma Verbeck Foundation, The Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians, CBIZ MHM, LLC & Mayor Hoffman McCann P.C., Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc., San Diego County Credit Union, Delsen & Company LLP.

The 2011 Gala Committee members were Yvonne Bloom, Marcy Blumberg, Sherry Delsen, Gail Glutting, Sharon Gray, Debby McDowell, Ericka Moody, Stephen Moore, Luis Nunez, Marsha Nunez, Ralleen Ratzlaff, and Stephanie Solis. Also serving on the committee were HGH Board of Directors Susan Fike and Randy Rundle. “The committee dedicated countless hours to this event and because of their efforts it was truly “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” said Rachel Wood, Event Coordinator.
